modernAKIS
The modernAKIS project is the focus of this Innovation Spotlight. The project is working to modernise agriculture through more efficient and effectice Agriculural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS).
The aim of modernAKIS is to “improve AKIS actors’ capacities to leverage individual, organisational and systemic resources needed for the transformation towards more coherent, effective, and efficient AKIS systems and the transition to a more sustainable management and use of natural resources in farming and forestry.”
CAP Network Ireland’s Claire Kearney recently spoke with modernAKIS’ Avion Phillips to learn more about modernAKIS and other iniatives working to improve AKIS in the European Union.
Key outputs of the project will include:
- Halt the decline in the Irish Breeding Wader population
- Raise awareness of Breeding Waders and associated downward pressures (community engagement and outreach)
- Drive population recovery on a National level
- Increase capacity in the Predation Risk Management sector
- Drive policy and increase awareness of the needs of Breeding Waders among policy makers
- Implement positive Breeding Wader actions on non-commercially farmed land
