Dutch Farm Experience
The Dutch Farm Experience is the focus of this Innovation Spotlight. The Netherlands is known for its impressive dairy production. But how was this achieved? What were the side effects of this success? And what have they learned in the process of intensification and scale enlargement that is relevant for other countries?
CAP Network Ireland’s Claire Kearney spoke with Katrien van’t Hooft, Dutch veterinary doctor and livestock development expert, about the Dutch Farm Experience.
Following a visit from Irish dairy farmers in 2022, Katrien was passionate about establishing ongoing cross-country collaboration experiences and a network to connect Dutch and Irish dairy farmers for knowledge sharing, due to the similarity in our national agricultural landscapes.
She would love to hear from any farming groups interested in a visit to the Dutch Farm Experience. Reach out to her through the Dutch Farm Experience website or any other channels on the website.
Key outputs include:
- Bring a realistic vision of Dutch dairy farming to visitors.
- Sharing lessons learned and solutions related to sustainability, biodiversity loss, the loss of soil fertility and income-related issues.
- Highlight how new techniques and traditional practices can effectively work together.
- Best practice farmer knowledge exchange.
