Bioregioning South East Ireland

Bioregioning South East Ireland is the focus of this Innovation Spotlight. Bioregioning South East Ireland (BioSEI) “sees itself as a transition hub, or a bioregional learning centre, or a living lab, or a safe space of belonging – deeply embedded in their local context, yet ready to work with similar sister organisations around Ireland and beyond.”

They focus on collective action and systemic change for healthy ecosystems and thriving communities in South East Ireland, connecting and supporting local changemakers working with place-based initiatives, ideas and innovations that generate social, natural, economic and inspirational value, all at once and for the long term.

CAP Network Ireland spoke with Sarah Prosser, weaver and CEO of Bioregioning South East Ireland, about this innovative approach.

Bioregioning South East Ireland are hosting an event on August 26th for people wanting to know more about what bioregioning in their part of Ireland might look like. Learn more here.

Key outputs include:

  • The Bioregioning South East Ireland Food Manifesto states the vision and ambition of the community and food producers in the Waterford Bioregion. The manifesto was co-written by 35 citizens of the ‘Bioregioning South East Ireland’ as part of a process facilitated by the Bioregional Weaving Lab (BWL) Collective in collaboration with Ashoka, Commonland and GIY (Grow it Yourself).
  • A series of maps to give people a perspective of what’s happening in the bioregion from a zoomed out perspective has been really powerful.
  • Other outputs include reports, workshops, new knowledge created from bringing people together.
